Welcome to Nantucket Tourist, a simple site to help you plan a visit to Nantucket, Massachusetts.
Nantucket, Massachusetts is a 305 square mile island located 40 miles south of Cape Cod in the Nantucket Sound (in the Atlantic Ocean). Nantuckett sits about 30 miles east of Martha's Vineyard.
For a short time during the 1800s, Nantucket was the whaling capital of the world. Before electricity, whale oil was the petroleum of the day and Nantucket was the whaling capitol. Nantucket's ships sailed to all parts of the world. When the whaling industry died after the introduction of petroleum, Nantucket's economic reign disappeared.
These days Nantucket is best known as the vacation spot for New England's upper crust. And it's whaling history is one of its big tourist attractions.
Regardless of this reputation as an expensive destination, Nantucket can also be low-key summer vacation spot with cozy restaurants and 70 miles of great beaches.

This 17 x 22 inch drawing is one of several that I produced for my collective body of clients during the art boom of the mid-70s. It shows a clipper racing home with its cargo in heavy seas during the mid-19th century.
